Wednesday 10th June
Sutton Coldfield to Kenilworth
🚴ROUTE OVERVIEW
Distance: ~29 miles (47km) Elevation: ~1100ft Estimated time: 4.5 hours including breaks & publicity
Overview: More than halfway through the challenge, Day 5 is my shortest mileage day. Staying with family overnight will give me time to catch up with washing and admin! Despite being 'only' 29 miles (which is still more than a marathon!), it won't be easy as it isn't a nice flat route compared with the cycle paths on the seaside town where I live. I'll start by cycling through Sutton Park, which is one of the largest urban parks in Europe and is the home to an undulating parkrun course. Then I'll follow nature reserves and canals to avoid busy inner city traffic around Birmingham. After reaching the busy city of Coventry I'll cycle through Warwick University campus then on to Kenilworth Old Town for a quick peek at the castle before finishing.
Key Points
Start: Sutton Coldfield. Mid‑points: New Hall Valley Cycle Route → Wylde Green → Plantsbrook → Birmingham & Fazeley Canal → Minworth → Water Orton → Meriden → Four Oaks → Tile Hill → Warwick University → Crackley. Finish: Kenilworth
Supporters / publicity break: The Barn at Berryfields, Berkswell Road, Meriden
