Sunday 7th June
Padgate to Bakewell
🚴ROUTE OVERVIEW
Distance: ~62 miles (100km) Elevation: ~2700ft Estimated time: 10 hours including breaks and hills!
Overview: Day 2 starts by cycling through Warrington then having a quick photo stop at Latchford Locks on the Manchester Ship Canal. I'll then pick up the Transpennine Way, a fabulous cycle path that is mostly traffic free, heading towards Manchester. My cousin will be providing lunch as her house near Stockport is perfectly placed for the route. After lunch it gets tough, it will be hilly with some bumpy off-road trails heading to Marple and into the Peak District. This section will be tough on my heavy bike. The last 10 miles will be on the Monsal Trail; with its viaducts and tunnels it is known as one of the best bike rides of Great Britain. I've added a few miles detour to be able to cycle the full length of the Monsal trail, fingers crossed my legs will hold out. I'm staying overnight at Bagshaw Hall & Lodge in Bakewell, the team there are fabulous supporters of the L2R Challenge, offering a perfect room for me & my bike. It will be a long tough day, I'll be glad to arrive.
