Tuesday 9th June
Nottingham to Sutton Coldfield
🚴ROUTE OVERVIEW
Distance: ~60 miles (97km) Elevation: ~1500ft Estimated time: 9 hours including breaks & publicity
Overview: Day 4 starts by cycling through Nottingham University campus on the way to Derby. Another high mileage day today. The terrain will be a mixture of busy roads, bumpy bike paths and quieter lanes, plus a stretch along a canal towpath. Unfortunately the steepest elevation is towards the end of the day. I will need to take today slowly and fuel my body well to have sufficient power in my legs to ride a heavy laden bike the full 60 miles to Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham. I've built in an extra afternoon cafe stop in Lichfield to give my legs & bum a rest, have a walk around the Cathedral and spread the word about my challenge.
Key Points
Start: Nottingham. Mid‑points: Erewash Valley Trail → Long Eaton → Derby → Heatherton → Stretton → Barton-under-Needwood → Nether Stowe → Lichfield → Aldershawe → Mere Green. Finish: Sutton Coldfield
Supporters / publicity breaks: (1) Waterside Cafe Alvaston Park, Derby. (2) Corner House pub, Branston. (3) Salt at Lichfield Cathedral.
